Brora Rangers Football Club hosted their annual dinner dance at the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness last weekend, raising over £14,000 for the club.

Around 150 people were in attendance, ranging from board members, coaching staff and their families to businesses who wanted to support the Cattachs.

Money was raised through ticket sales, a Goal or No Goal competition on the night as well as a raffle and an auction, while entertainment was provided by Celtic rock band Rhythmnreel.

Some of the prizes up for grabs included stays in Inverness, Aviemore and Tenerife, a stay at a caravan at Granny’s Heilan Hame in Dornoch and rounds of golf at Castle Stuart, Meldrum House and Gleneagles.

Brora Rangers director David Dowling was very happy with how the night panned out, saying events like the dinner dance are crucial to the club’s fortunes.

“It went really well,” he enthused.

“We had a big crowd, and it was quite a big dinner for a Highland League club in Brora to have in Inverness. We were delighted with the support we had.

“It’s a fair bit of work to put together, but I have to mention Donna MacDonald and Becky Clay who between them collected in all the raffles collecting and helped on the night, which makes a big difference.

“We raised over £14,000, which is a lot of money for Brora. Once you get into double figures you’re doing well.

“We had a lot of support from a lot of different companies, and one of the tables we had was all of our coaches and their partners too, so it was nice to see the families there.

“I think it shows that everyone is pulling together to make the club work. That has shown in our start to the league season - it’s only a start but it’s a very good start.

“These events are hugely important for the club. If we get a couple of hundred people through the gate on a Saturday you might take in a thousand or two, but then the next week you’re away and you could be spending £1000 on a bus, so it’s all the off-pitch stuff that makes the money for the club really.

“There’s definitely a feel-good factor, and that is showing in our results, so there’s always something to look forward to.”
