Passion for horses leads to new business
At 19 years old, Kirsteen Mackintosh has used her passion and knowledge of horses to start her own riding centre, Star Stables.
Young entrepreneur and new business woman Kirsteen describes her new venture as "a dream come true".
With an HNC in Equine Studies, plus Stage 1 Riding and Care, and Equine Specific First Aid and Horse Safety, Kirsteen has all the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure that the riding centre operates a very high standard and provides excellent facilities.
Based in Ardachu, Brora, Star Stables offers eight horses to suit riders of all stages and abilities, thus ensuring riders feel confident and above all, enjoy the experience.
Kirsteen said "I love working with horses, so to be able to pass on my interest in horses to others is a wonderful experience. Whether it be jumping, flatwork, hacking or care."
To realise her dreams of self-employment, Kirsteen approached The Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust (PSYBT) and Business Gateway where she was given expert advice on writing a business plan, financial assistance and an Aftercare Adviser to provide on-going support and guidance.
David Knight, a PSYBT Aftercare Adviser, said: "In a short space of time, Kirsteen has built a good customer base, showing success with a number of returning riders for lessons, and regularly attracts new visitors from outwith the local area".
Kirsteen added: "The help PSYBT has given me, and continues to give me is invaluable. They didn’t just simply give me a cheque and expect me to get on with it. Instead they have been an open source of advice and support."
