The couple behind the fundraising Walk for Emilia in Dornoch last Saturday say the amount raised has “massively exceeded” their expectations.

Alvin and Stephanie Wood, whose young daughter Emilia has Rett Syndrome, organised the family friendly 5k, which raised £2500 for Reverse Rett, the charity working towards a cure for the condition.

The walk was part of a national initiative with similar events taking place elsewhere.

Among those who took part were another family, the McCourts, whose daughter Aimee also has Rett Syndrome.

Mrs Wood has posted online her gratitude to supporters who helped with the walk as well as a raffle and refreshments.

She said: “Due to the generosity of our local community and friends and family near and far, we have massively exceeded our expectations. All of these funds will go directly to Reverse Rett to help them find treatments and a cure for those living with the condition. The first clinical trial for a treatment has now finished and a second trial is ready to start shortly.”
