Over 100 homes north of Lairg remain without power this morning as a result of strong winds and rain brought by Storm Ashley.

The unplanned outage was reported to Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) at 1.22am, and is understood to be affecting 115 customers across seven IV27 post code areas.

SSEN engineers say they are aware of the fault and expect power to be restored by 3pm.

The fault in north Sutherland is one of several affecting customers across the Highlands this morning, with faults also reported in areas near Fearn, Dundonnell, Beauly, Daviot, Watten and Mey.

SSEN engineers say most will likely to be without power until late afternoon.

A statement via SSEN’s Power Track reads: “We’re aware of a fault causing customers in the area to be without power. We expect the cause of this to be from the strong winds and heavy rain Storm Ashley is bringing across the network.

“We’ve been tracking this weather for several days and have additional teams on hand to respond. It’s possible that either the wind or rain has caused damage to our network and our teams will need to repair this as and when it’s safe to do so.

“Our local engineers have been informed this area is without power and are working hard to get the lights back on.”
