‘Outstanding heifer’ turns heads at Dingwall Mart anniversary sale as hammer falls at £2300
DINGWALL and Highland Marts Ltd sold 1287 store cattle and 129 OTM cattle at its 21st Anniversary Sale.
The event was sponsored by Conanvet.
It was judged by Mr W. Purdon, Stravenhouse, Carluke, Lanarkshire.
A strong entry of bullocks and heifers greeted the judge with the champion ticket being awarded to Miss Tilly Munro, Invercharron with her 1st prize British blue cross heifer.
This outstanding heifer scaled 620kgs with the hammer falling at £2,300 to Mr Angus Greenlaw who ventured along the A96 to attain her for his suckler herd.
Reserve champion was awarded to Mr Callum MacIver, 9 Ordale, with his 2 nd prize Charolais cross heifer which scaled 665kgs realising £2,200 to Dingwall stalwart Mr Macdonald.
The AMR young Bunchrew Trophy for the best pair of heifers with breeding potential was awarded to Messrs Mackintosh, Lyne of Urchany for pair of Limousin crosses which realised £1,700 selling to the judge.

Bullocks (758) averaged 302.4p per kg and sold to 417.4p per kg for a 230kg Limousin cross from Lochdhu, Nairn and £2080 gross for a 670kg Limousin cross from 9 Ordale, Muir of Ord.
Heifers (523) averaged 285.8p per kg and sold to 389.0p per kg for a 365kg Limousin cross from Lochdhu Farm, Nairn and £2300 gross for a 620kg British Blue cross from Invercharron, Ardgay.
Young Bulls (5) sold to £1,010 gross for a pen of 360kg Limousin crosses from Caplich Estate, Oykel Bridge.
The mart verdict was fairly upbeat: “Store cattle trade on the whole was extremely brisk, despite the recent doom and gloom of weather conditions and the prime trade being stagnant these last number of weeks.
“Another full company of buyers ensured all classes sold well in excess of last year’s prices which saw the bullocks levelling at over £3 per kg.”
