North Coast Campus head teacher Katherine Wood gave a presentation on remote learning to Sutherland County Committee when members met virtually last week.

The presentation outlined the journey that the North Coast Campus schools have gone on over the past year.

It began by explaining the technical capabilities and resources available pre-pandemic to the schools and then went on to explain the development of skills, priorities, and lessons learned over the year after experiencing two lockdowns caused by the pandemic.

Mrs Wood told councillors that while nothing could beat face to face learning, online lessons had offered some benefits.

The online option had highlighted the value of communication and had increased parents' opportunities to engage in their children's learning, she said.

Mrs Wood praised the hard work put in by all involved in the school community during the coronavirus pandemic, which has seen education severely disrupted.

“Our staff, pupils, parents and the communities which we live in are amazing. They have been so supportive and have worked very hard over the past year," she said.

Committee chairman Cllr Richard Gale said: “On behalf of myself and committee members, I would like to thank Katherine Wood for her insightful presentation and information on the great work happening in our local schools."
