THE NHS Highland area has recorded one positive test for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours – ending the region's run of six days without any newly confirmed cases.

The number of people who have tested positive for the coronavirus in the health board area since the start of the pandemic increased to 382 overnight.

The region's solitary new case was one of 30 positive tests recorded across Scotland in the past 24 hours.

Almost a third of those were in mainland health boards covering the north of Scotland. As well as the solitary new case in the Highlands, there were three new diagnoses in NHS Grampian and a further five in NHS Tayside – the latter of which covers an area extending as far north as the Drumochter Pass.

However there was better news in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney and NHS Eileanan Siar, which all continued their long run of days without any freshly diagnosed cases.

Nationally, the number of people with Covid-19 who were receiving treatment in hospitals last night continued to fall – down from 260 to 255 – but the number of those in intensive care rose from two to four.

However, Scotland's recent run without any fatalities among those who have tested positive continued for another day.
