Dornoch Community Council is to ‘strongly’ object to a plan to build a block of apartments at the town’s business park.

Ewan MacLeod of Meadows Project Ltd, is seeking planning consent to construct the eight apartments and associated car parking in an existing car park opposite CoCo Salon and Spa.

Community council chairman Patrick Murray said at the group’s Zoom meeting on Wednesday: “I wish to object to this. We have got Highland and Islands Enterprise currently looking at sites for industrial or work spaces and this (apartments) is not what we want to do.”

Treasurer Jerry Bishop said that the area of land in question was zoned specifically for business purposes in the Caithness and Sutherland plan, adopted in 2017.

“This is not business and on these grounds I object strongly,” he said. “We already have consented applications for new residential buildings in other parts of Dornoch.”

Other councillors concurred and it was agreed to submit a official objection.
