The membership of the trade led tourism development group, North Highland Tourism (NHT) has now hit the 100 mark, delighted managers have just announced.

In recent weeks several high profile new members have joined the organisation including Dornoch Caravan Park.

Amongst other new members are Inverewe Garden, Ackergill Tower near Wick, Gairloch Golf Club., Corrieshalloch Gorge in Wester Ross and Old Drynie House, North Kessock.

NHT chairman Murray Lamont said: "We’re delighted to welcome our new members and we would urge others who want to be part of a collaborative effort to improve tourism in the area to get on board and to use all that North Highland Tourism has to offer."

Set up in 2006, North Highland Tourism has the remit of promoting tourism in the area.

The group comes under the umbrella of the North Highland Initiative. which was launched in 2005 by the Duke of Rothesay – as the Prince of Wales is known in Scotland – to support rural communities and develop the area’s economy.

NHT has been operating from an office at The Storehouse in Ross-shire but recently opened a second office at Wick Marina.

The new office is shared with North Highland Products – another operational arm of the North Highland Initiative.

Mr Lamont said the move would foster closer working between North Highland Tourism and North Highland Products.

Meanwhile, he revealed that one area in which NHT had enjoyed substantial success was in working to promote golf tourism.

The creation of the Dornoch Firth Golf Pass had been hugely successful, with more than 500 passes sold.

Mr Lamont said: "Around 360 of the passes were sold in the past year, 150 of those online through our website. This has given the four participant clubs around £50,000 in income and helped inject around £100,000 into the local economy.

Dornoch Firth Golf Pass has been shortlisted for the ‘Best in Working Together for Tourism’ category for this year’s Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards.
