It is a sizeable donation by any standards and one that has been received with much appreciation.

Bettyhill seamstress Joan Mackay has donated £1207 to Armadale Medical Practice Development Association – a cheque was presented to Dr Andreas Herfurt and his staff on Tuesday.

The funding was raised after Joan put her time to good use during lockdown, manufacturing face masks for the local response to the coronavirus pandemic. Her masks were distributed throughout the parish of Farr from Bettyhill Post Offcies, The Store, Bettyhill, and West End Stores in Portskerra.

They were given away in exchange for a donation to the practice development association.

Joan said: "Thanks to everyone who donated so generously and to all those who gave me the material and elastic to produce so many masks."

Dr Herfurt said he was "blown away" by the amount raised, which he described as "incredible, just incredible". He added that the money would be used to purchase equipment for the practice that otherwise would not be available. Previous funding has been used to buy ECG and Doppler machines and other equipment.
