Sports day is one of the many fixtures of the school calendar that Covid-19 has disrupted.

But staff at the three North Coast Campus primary schools – Farr, Tongue and Melvich – were determined the virus would not stop them from holding the event, albeit with a difference.

Pupils were encouraged to hold their own family sports’ days as one of the activities set through their Family Learning Grid.

Farr principal teacher Audrey Robson said: “We were thrilled with the variety of photos we received and very impressed with the range of races and events included. I have never seen a hen race listed in a school sports programme until now!

“It is greatly encouraging for us as teachers to know how well our pupils are engaging with the activities set for them.”

Infant teacher Carol-Anne Farquhar said: “We felt that these photos would bring a smile to the faces of people in the local community, who would have usually joined with us for our sports day celebrations.”

All children across the campus schools and nursery are to be awarded a special sports day medal on their return to school.
