Nordic Fiddlers Bloc to perform in Ullapool and Lairg
Virtuoso fiddle trio The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc return to the north for two performances as part of their latest tour.
The popular band will perform at the Ceilidh Place in Argyle Street, Ullapool, on Friday, May 9 and at Lairg Community Centre on Saturday, May 10.
The band is made up of three fiddlers from the Nordic regions - Olav Luksengård Mjelva, Anders Hall and Kevin Henderson hail from Norway, Sweden and Shetland, respectively.
The trio first met in 2009 in Voss, Norway, where they made an “instant musical connection”during jamming sessions.
Anders Hall felt that the combination of their three distinct fiddling styles would create something special, and his hunch has proved correct.
Playing on standard fiddle, octave fiddle, viola and Hardanger fiddle, they have developed a sound that is described as “intense and invigorating”. Their playing has been likened to that of a string quartet rather than just a trio.
They have performed throughout Scandinavia, mainland Europe, the US and the UK.
The Lairg event is organised by music promoters Sutherland Sessions.
Both performances start at 7.30pm, and tickets (priced £16.96/£14.79) are available from www.thenordicfiddlersbloc.com.
