‘No information’ on cause of blaze that completely destroyed Rogart Vets building
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) says it has “no information” regarding the cause of the fire that gutted an East Sutherland veterinary surgery.
Emergency services were called to Rogart Vets, which is situated on the western outskirts of the village, at around 11.28am last Friday, May 16.
Fire engine crews from Lairg, Dornoch, Invergordon, Dingwall and Inverness tackled the blaze.
All animals, customers and staff escaped the fire.
The A839 Rogart to Lairg Road , from which the surgery is accessed, was closed for several hours.
There were unconfirmed local reports that the blaze started when an electric car caught fire, but the fire service said the blaze had spread from a shed.
However, when asked about the cause, a spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “Unfortunately, we don't have anything further to add to the statement we issued on Friday, May 16, and we don't have any information on the cause of the fire.
“We were alerted at 11.28am on Friday, 16 May, to reports of a fire on the A839 in Rogart, Sutherland.
“Operations Control mobilised seven fire appliances and three specialist resources to the scene, where firefighters worked to extinguish a fire affecting a shed that had spread to a nearby single-storey commercial building and a car.
“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was safe.”
Rogart Vets was previously independently owned but was sold some years ago to Independent Vetcare Limited, which is part of IVC Evidensia and said to be the largest veterinary group in Europe with over 2200 clinics and hospitals.
IVC Evidensia did not respond to a request from the Northern Times for information on whether or not the veterinary surgery would be rebuilt or relocated.
