No fresh fatalities from coronavirus in NHS Highland area for second week

THERE have been no new deaths from confirmed or suspected Covid-19 in the last seven days in the NHS Highland area for the second week in a row, weekly figures have revealed.

So far there has only been one death since the start of the month.

That means the current coronavirus-related death toll in the health board area remains at 115.

Each Wednesday the National Records of Scotland (NRS) issues numbers of cases where Covid-19 has been mentioned on a death certificate.

The total number of Highland deaths in care homes remains at 39, while there were 15 deaths at home and 61 in hospital.

Within the smaller Highland Council area the total death toll remains at 51, with 16 in care homes, seven at home and 28 in hospital.

Scotland as a whole has seen a rise in the total number of Covid-19 deaths of just eight – up to compared to the previous week – bringing the total to 4201.

Though the Covid-19 death rate rose marginally it was the second lowest since the first death was recorded at the start of March.
