THREE new Covid-19 infections have been detected across the NHS Highland area.

The region’s cumulative number of confirmed cases rose from 5093 to 5096 when the latest figures were released on Tuesday.

There were 178 positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours – or 1.4 per cent of all tests during that window.

Some 106 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scotland’s hospitals last night. This was up two from Monday’s update.

Thirteen people were in intensive care – down one.

And sadly another two people have died having tested positive for the virus in the previous 28 days.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no fresh positive tests across NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney and NHS Eileanan Siar.

NHS Grampian recorded 23 new positive tests, for a running total of 14,814.

And NHS Tayside’s total rose by 16, to 14,573.

There have now been 224,092 positive tests across Scotland since the pandemic began.

More than 2.75 million adults in Scotland have now had their first vaccination jag, while 797,267 have had their second.
