Fort George reopened to the public yesterday – with the addition of a phone app to guide visitors around.

The 250-year-old site, which is managed by Historic Environment Scotland, was built following the Battle of Culloden in 1746.

Its purpose was to provide a secure base for King George II’s army in case of another Jacobite rebellion.

An audio guide to the fort's long history can be download via the HES app.

Fort George is one of over 20 Historic Environment Scotland sites reopening across Scotland today.
