The new police officer in Lochinver has spoken of the "privilege" of serving in the area.

Constable Donald Morrison recently moved to the Lochinver beat, having spent the past nine years working from the Kyle of Lochalsh station.

The native Gaelic speaker is originally from the Ness area of the Isle of Lewis and joined the police in 2004, having previously worked as a paramedic.

He initially served in Kirkwall before spending two years with the Royal Falkland Islands Police.

He worked in Kyle after his return to Scotland before making the move further up the west coast in May.

Constable Morrison said: "It is a privilege to serve in such a beautiful area of the country and I have greatly enjoyed my early days based in Lochinver.

"I have spent several years policing a rural area during my career and hope to continue to make a positive contribution to the communities of Sutherland."

Outside of work, Constable Morrison is a keen photographer and is planning to return to a former hobby of fishing, a passion reignited by the lochs he has discovered since making the move to Sutherland.

Police Scotland has a series of offices along the north and west coast, with officers based in Ullapool, Lochinver, Rhiconich and Tongue.
