A POPULAR Sutherland head teacher is moving on to take up another post.

Simon Scott, cluster head of Golspie and Rogart primary schools, will stay in education in the north Highlands but his new role had not yet been officially disclosed.

Parents at the two schools were informed of the staffing change in a letter distributed before the school holidays.

East Sutherland and Edderton ward councillor Richard Gale told Golspie Community Council of the move at its virtual meeting last month.

He said: "We are losing a head teacher – Simon Scott is moving onwards and upwards. He is going to a position well suited to his particular skills and enterprise.

"It is a loss locally but a gain for Highland schools."

Community council chairman Ian Sutherland said: "By all accounts Simon had done a fantastic job for Golspie and Rogart. He has really fitted into the community."

Mr Scott, who has been at the Golspie and Rogart schools for some three to four years, previously worked in a range of schools from small and rural to inner city.

He also served as a schools inspector for a period – a time he described during a talk to the Rotary Club of East Sutherland as "grey suits and no one want to know you".

He is a Northern Times Food for Thought columnist and the priest in charge at St Finnbarr's Episcopal Church at Dornoch.
