Brora could be in line for new housing close to the centre of the community.

Local resident Craig Mackay, Clyne Milton Farm Cottage, has lodged a planning application with Highland Council for a mixture of accommodation including two flats, two family homes and a single accessible housing unit.

A vacant 620sq m brownfield site some 15m south of the former Clydesdale Bank on Victoria Road, has been identified for the development.

The site identified for new housing lies south of the former Clydesdale Bank, Brora.

The site was formerly a garden area to the Bank House on Victoria Road, but historical maps and local knowledge indicate that it was originally part of the railway station yard.

It is thought there used to be a substantial build on the plot which was demolished when the Clydesdale bank, which closed in 2019 with the building now operating as a laundry, was built.

Mr Mackay's application is for consent in principle only, which means he will need to return to planners with further details.

A statement lodged with the authority reads: "Anticipated occupants may range from elderly, single occupant, small family or other grouping to suit.

"There is also an opportunity for some of the units to be used as self-catering accommodation.
