Dornoch couple Jim and Gill Robertson, who were raising funds to build a new home for a Nepalese grandmother, have been upset to learn that she has died.

A feature in last week’s Northern Times, detailed how the Robertsons were deeply touched during a trip to Nepal last year by the plight of Ramdal Rana.

The 87-year-old had been made homeless by the 2015 earthquake that devastated the country. Her home was rebuilt only to be washed away by a flood.

Mr and Mrs Robertson had already sent out £1500 to Nepal to enable the foundations of a new home to be laid. They were in the process of raising the remainder needed.

However the couple were contacted last Thursday by Ramdal Rani’s family to say she had passed away.

“It is so said but we will continue to build the house for her family in her memory,” said Mrs Robertson. “It is still very much needed.”

After training as a yoga teacher during lockdown, Mrs Robertson was due yesterday to host a fundraising Full Moon Yoga session which she hoped would raised more funds with all the proceeds going to Nepal.
