Inverness Ness-side councillor Jean Slater has been voted the new city depute provost.

Councillor Slater, an SNP member from Hilton, was brought in today at the Inverness city committee.

She replaces former deputy provost Glynis Sinclair, who later resigned her post, after accusing provost Alex Graham of aggressively challenging her for wearing a ceremonial chain against protocol at an event at the Inverness Town House.

She subsequently complained to the police but the procurator fiscal found that there was no basis for action and the case is closed.

It is understood the Public Standards commissioner, which investigates possible breaches of the councillors’ code of practice, is still looking into the complaint.
