REMAINING in the game and staying together are vital if you are to have a chance of overcoming either of the Old Firm, according to Caley Thistle manager Terry Butcher.

Inverness are at Rangers tomorrow — a game they go into with potentially seven players sidelined through injury, while David Davis is suspended.

Butcher, however, is only focusing on matters on the pitch and is hopeful that with the pressure off given the hosts will be expected to win, his side can thrive as underdogs.

"In the games we’ve won in the past against Rangers and Celtic we have always kept ourselves in the match," said Butcher, who may have Thomas Piermayr fit enough to be amongst the substitutes at Ibrox.

"As a team you have to keep on scrapping, as well as keeping your shape, your discipline and your togetherness. If you do that then it frustrates the opposition and you possibly have a chance of nicking something.

"When you play against either of the Old Firm you generally feel like you have nothing to lose anyway. Everbody tips you to get beat, so you tend to find yourself being discounted even before a ball is kicked.

"However, there is no pressure or expectation on you. There’s a freedom to just go and play."
