Moray Council urge bikers to make a movie

By SPP Reporter

PEOPLE in Elgin have been urged to jump on their bikes and film their favourite cycle route.

As part of the development of cycle paths Moray Council are encouraging cyclists to send in a bike’s eye view.

All the images received will be put together into a special video package which will be uploaded to a special ‘Urban Freedom’ Facebook site and to ‘You Tube’.

Urban Freedom is the part European-funded council project in Elgin to promote more cycling and sustainable travel in and around the town.

People can use video cameras or mobile phones to record their footage.

Chris Thompson, travel co-ordinator for Moray Council, said the aim is to encourage people to have more fun with their cycling and spread the message to others about the routes they can use.

The Urban Freedom project has already created six new colour-coded cycle routes which allow people to travel to and from Elgin more easily. That is in addition to the National Cycle Network which travels through Elgin from east to west.

The council kick-started the project by filming all of these routes and these will go on the Facebook site and YouTube early next week.

"Hopefully, with this idea we can show people that these routes are safe and comfortable, and capable of being cycled on every day journeys," said Mr Thompson.
