Companies have been given more time to get their entries in for this year’s Highland Business Awards.

Event organiser Inverness Chamber of Commerce has extended the deadline by a week, giving potential prize-winners until Friday, August 3 to enter.

Held at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness on Friday, September 25, the final day of Highland Business Week 2018, the Highland Business Awards will see 12 trophies presented to each of the categories, with one of the winners then chosen as overall winner and Highland Business of the Year.

The 2017 title went to Marine Harvest, and its business support manager, Steve Bracken, believes it is well worth while for any company to take part.

"Regardless of business size these awards are important in having your company distinguished by your business peers and giving your employees even greater pride in where they work," he said.

Last year’s event saw a range of businesses and other organisations from across the Highlands in contention for the awards, and this year looks set to follow that pattern.

Chamber events officer Lana MacGregor said: "It’s still early days with regards to entries but we have received a spread of entries from across the Highlands including Ross-shire, Sutherland, Wester Ross, Lochaber and the Isle of Skye

"The sector spread is extremely wide too, including Third Sector, care, learning, commercial services, building and construction, media, arts and culture and more."

The awards, which this year include two new categories – best newcomer to exporting and young apprentice of the year – attracted a record 106 entries in 2017 and the Chamber is hoping to do even better this year.

Also breaking records last year was the Highland Spotlight business exhibition, which returns to the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness on September 25.

Last year’s showcase saw its highest ever attendance with more than 550 visitors and exhibitors, representing a wide range of sectors. More than 65 exhibiting organisations are already booked for the event.
