The first ever Brodie Castle Kiltwalk is taking place on Sunday, June 23 in a bid to raise vital funds for Clic Sargent

With its bigger 26 mile cousin on September 1, Brodie Castle is to be the venue of a smaller 15K Kiltwalk through beautiful Culbin Forest in June.

The shorter route not only is geared for those who prefer a smaller distance but enables the organisers to stage an action packed and very interactive Family Fun Day in the stunning grounds of Brodie Castle, bringing in many local groups from the Moray area.

The walkers will be piped off at 9.30am into the glorious Culbin Woods visiting Hidden History, the intriguing Dragonfly ponds and famous Hill 99 viewpoint and then back to Brodie Castle for a very warm reception.

The route will be fully signposted and marshalled and Peter Logie, CLIC Sargent’s Fundraising Manager for Moray and the Highlands is urging everyone to take part.

“You can do the walk by yourself or why not rally some friends into joining as a team,” he said. “Whilst the event is mainly a fundraiser for CLIC Sargent’s work with children and young people with cancer in the North East, as a team, 50% of the amount you raise can go to ANY children’s charity, nursery or school that you choose.”

Registration for adults is £10 and £5 for under 16s. Visit www.thekiltwalk.co.uk and click on the events. We would ask all Kiltwalkers to try and raise £50 in sponsorship.

Brodie Castle will be hosting a Family Fun Day event from 1pm, with lots of interesting activities to take part in, adn free activities for kiltwalkers.

Why not tackle the dinosaur trail or watch the living history demonstrations by Battlefield Highland and have a photo-shoot opportunity? What about listening to and watching the Nairn Steel Band or take part in the Kiddies races?

Lots of stalls, activities, food, entertainment and drinks!

Admission will be £4 for adults, £2 for children under 16 and family tickets for £10 (2 adults and 3 children). Entry tickets purchased on the day but all kiltwalkers will have free entry.

The first Kiltwalker to sign up is Elgin man Iain MacKenzie, who is walking in memory of his daughter Emma Jane, who tragically lost her life to leukaemia in November 2003.

Iain and his wife Donna have helped raise many thousands of pounds over the years for CLIC Sargent.

Alexandra Mackenzie-Copp, Property Manager at Brodie Castle said they were looking forward to the event.

“Brodie Castle is honoured to be playing a part in Kiltwalk, a brilliant new event for Moray,” she said. “We’ve got lots of fun events organised for all the family to add to the occasion which will see two great charities – CLIC Sargent and the National Trust for Scotland – working together to raise funds and have fun.”
