National records show coronavirus deaths in NHS Highland area now number 97
A total of 97 people have now died in the NHS Highland area from either confirmed or suspected Covid-19 – up from 88 a week ago.
Each Wednesday the National Records of Scotland issues numbers of when Covid-19 has been mentioned on a death certificate as a cause.
For the health board area in total, 31 of those deaths occurred in care homes, 13 were at home and 53 were in hospital.
It also breaks down the numbers to the much smaller Highland Council area, where the death toll now stands at 39.
Of those, in total nine deaths occurred in care homes, five were at home and 25 were in hospital.
That spike in deaths in care homes – up six on last week – is almost certainly due to the massive outbreak of infection at the Home Farm care home on Skye though locations are not given.
There, a total of six people have died from the virus which infected more than 50 residents and staff.
Nationally Scotland saw a rise in Covid-19 deaths, up to 3213 from 2795 registered seven days ago.
But that is the second week in a row that numbers issued by the NRS have shown a decline in the weekly death toll in Scotland.
In a more detailed breakdown of the national numbers, the majority of deaths were in hospitals (1537) while 1438 people died in care homes and 238 people died at home or in another setting.
