The award is a major boost for the regional group, currently the organisation's only Institute in Sutherland,
The Golspie Institute now forms part of the Ross-shire & Sutherland Federation having re-affiliated on the dissolution of the Sutherland Federation some years ago, when all other Sutherland Institutes chose to close.
The then Ross-shire Federation were most welcoming and agreed a name change to “Ross-shire and Sutherland”.
When Golspie was founded in 1925 it was then part of a Ross-shire & Sutherland Federation which later divided.
Golspie Institute hopes that their forthcoming Centennial will generate a revival of SWI in Sutherland, an aspiration furthered by this national recognition of Mrs Gutteridge's achievement.
Although based in Golspie, the Institute now draws members from Helmsdale. It hopes to widen participation across Sutherland, initially with the formation of satellite groups in other Sutherland Communities, which may then evolve into further Institutes in their own right.
Mrs Gutteridge's photograph will also form part of the 2026 SWI national calendar.
