BBC Great British Sewing Bee finalist dedicated last fashion design to Muir of Ord granda
A Muir of Ord woman in the finals of BBC One series, The Great British Sewing Bee, dedicated her final fashion design to her granda who also hails from the Black Isle village.
Ailsa Lyall, took part in the final of the amateur sewing TV competition, where participants compete to impress judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young, hoping to be crowned Britain's most sensational seamster.
While the Muir of Ord woman didn’t win the final, Ailsa gracefully applauded her competitor Luke Matthew who took home first place. She also revealed how her “extremely special” final design held a deeper meaning.
“I just have such a passion for Scottish textiles and I absolutely obliterated my budget on tartan.” said Ailsa. “I have absolutely no regrets, and I'm so glad I got to scream about my Scottish heritage by highlighting this amazing fabric on the show.
“Having my design styled with my Granda’s sporran, sock and flashes just felt so special. Thank you to my cousin Fearghas for letting me borrow that even if you didn't know about it at the time!
“The final was so emotional for me, but reflecting on my roots made me feel so connected to my family and the ones who are no longer here with us.
“The bee has unlocked such a passion in me and I'm so happy to have been pushed to explore my own personal style through this process. And the queer representation in the final episode was on fire!
