Highlands and Islands MSP Emma Roddick quizzes Transport Minister Graeme Dey over incoming ban on parking on pavements and public walkways – she asked for suggestions on how communities and local authorities in Sutherland and the rest of the region can encourage more appropriate use of pavements prior to the ban coming into force
Highlands and Islands MSP Emma Roddick has questioned Transport Minister Graeme Dey over the incoming ban on parking on pavements and public walkways.
She asked the minister for suggestions on how communities and local authorities can encourage more appropriate use of pavements prior to the ban coming into force.
The MSP said: “Pavement parking is a huge concern which causes great difficulty for disabled people or parents of young children. It can make it impossible for someone in a wheelchair or with a buggy to use the pavement safely, putting them at risk.
“It is imperative that the ban comes into effect as soon as possible and is appropriately enforced. Local authorities need to be empowered to encourage appropriate use of walkways in the meantime, and I look forward to the Scottish Government’s suggestions on the matter.”
