MP Jamie Stone swears oath at House of Commons
Jamie Stone, newly re-elected MP for Caithness Sutherland and Easter Ross, has sworn into the House of Commons this morning.
Prior to the King’s State Opening of Parliament, all MPs are required to take an Oath of Allegiance to the Crown before they can take their seats in the new term.
Commenting, Mr Stone said: “It is an enormous privilege to be re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross, not least because it is where I have always called home.
“I endeavour to finish the work I started in the last Parliamentary term. That means working closely with local stakeholders and Government to ensure that the job opportunities promised by the Sutherland Spaceport and the Cromarty Firth Green Freeport come to fruition.
“I also look forward to getting stuck into the new parts of my constituency. My team are already making plans to set up a pop-up office in Ullapool to tackle the risk of democratic deficit that serving such a large constituency poses.
“I am extremely proud to see the Highlands return to its Liberal tradition – and in the spirit of that tradition, I will continue to be a strong local voice in Westminster. At their core, Highlanders are open-minded and welcoming people. I am more than glad to see the scourge of nationalism wiped from these parts.”
