Far north MP Jamie Stone is pressing for repairs to the dilapidated Cape Wrath road.
The 11-mile stretch – which has been described as the “worst-maintained road in Britain” – runs through an MoD bombing range and is shut when exercises are taking place.
It is also the only road that leads to Cape Wrath, Scotland’s most north-westerly point. When the road is open, a minibus can take visitors up to see some of Scotland's most beautiful sights, including the Cape Wrath lighthouse.
Lib Dem MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross Mr Stone has secured a meeting with Jeremy Quin, Minister of State for Defence, to discuss if the MoD will carry out repairs on the road to Cape Wrath.
Mr Stone said: “This road is really a rough track. People using it, or the minibus taking visitors to Cape Wrath lighthouse, are in danger of the terrible state of the road causing damage to vehicles.
"As the Ministry of Defence uses the road regularly, my feeling is that they should help pay for its repair and upkeep. I know that it would be seen as a gesture of goodwill the local people would take on board and be grateful for.”
