A CYCLIST was injured after being knocked off his bicycle when a 65-year-old woman misjudged an overtake.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that Sandra Callus, of Inver Park, Lochinver, was driving along the A835 between Ledmore and Ullapool when she encountered two cyclists ahead of her.

Fiscal depute, Naomi Duffy-Welsh, said: "She pulled out to overtake but collided with the rear tyre of one bicycle and her wing mirror struck the cyclist, knocking him off his bike. Callus stopped her vehicle as did a camper van travelling behind to check on the casualty, the court heard.

"An ambulance and police were called and he was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment. He had a minor hairline fracture to a vertebrae and was advised to rest," Ms Duffy-Welsh added.

Callus admitted by letter driving carelessly on August 30 this year, was fined £300 and had her licence endorsed with six penalty points.
