A Classroom Without Limits has been compiled by former geography teacher Keith Brunskill from staff and pupil memories which he and headmaster Nevill Mangin have collected.

Dunrobin School operated for just a few years from 1965 to 1972 and during that time an estimated 200 boys aged from 12 to 16 were educated there with around 70 at any one time.

A number of girls did board in the later years and there were also several pupils who attended the school but lived locally.

The school was founded after Elizabeth, the Countess of Sutherland, decided the castle should be put to a “good use”. There was a heavy emphasis on sport and outdoor activities.

Now aged 97, the Countess has written a foreword to the 364-page , illustrated book and has said she is delighted the school’s story is being told.

“I am pleased that the story of the school is at last being told for I knew many of the pupils and staff,” she said.

“Just as some half century ago I supported the idea of the school, I am delighted now to endorse this fascinating record of a wonderful achievement.”

Former pupils have kept in touch and reunions are held around every five years in Golspie and Brora.

Inverness printers For The Right Reason (FTRR), a registered charity, have completed an inital 100 copy print run.

Profits from the sales will go to FTRR and Aberdeenshire based charity Books Abroad.

The launch on Monday, April 8, takes place at Golspie Inn from noon until 2.30pm. Printer Richard Birkitt will be speaking and Nevill Mangin and Keith Brunskill will be in attendance to sign copies.
