Members of Assynt Mountain Rescue Team go to aid of walkers lost in the dark after trip to Sutherland waterfall.





Two walkers sparked a night-time rescue near Britain's highest waterfall.

Members of Assynt Mountain Rescue Team were sent to Eas a' Chual Aluinn, which at 638 feet is the highest falls in the UK, on Friday night.

The two lost walkers had gone to see the spectacular waterfall.

A number of volunteer rescuers walked in to Eas a'Chual Aluinn to escort the lost walkers back to safety.

A spokesperson for the team said: "The couple made the right decision when they realised they were lost and called 999, requesting police and then mountain rescue.

“Mobile phone tracking technology was used to confirm their location and, due to their proximity to very steep ground, they were asked to stay where they were.

"A group of our volunteers then walked in to escort them safely back to their vehicle.”

He continued: "When heading out into the hills, always remember to take a map, compass and head torch with spare batteries when you head out into the hills.”
