Two senior members of a Wester Ross community garden team are about to hang up their forks and trowels and step down from their volunteering duties.

The award-winning Sitooterie Wildlife Observation Garden in Pier Road, Gairloch is losing valued team members Shirley and Mike Powley.

Shirley, who is 90 and Mike, who is nearly 96, have decided to retire from helping in the garden after almost 10 years of planting and weeding.

Team member Fran Harvey, who organises the Sitooterie's planting sessions, said: "We praise Mike and Shirley for their hard work, garden know-how, cheerful company, and Mike's unerring sense of humour.

"We hope that they will continue as honorary members, and join us sometimes to share in what the team continues to do, and catch up with everyone."
