A GOLSPIE father and daughter took a plunge into Loch Shin, Lairg, last week as part of their year-long wild swimming charity challenge.

Patrick and Alice Marriott, Littleferry, have so far raised £5000 for the Sandpiper Trust, which provides rural clinicians with emergency life-saving equipment.

Patrick and Alice Marriott have set themselves the challenge of wild swimming 50m without wet suits for charity every month this year.

The pair embarked on their first wild swim in January by taking a dip in Loch Fleet, close to their home, and have since also braved the freezing temperatures of Loch Brora.

The rules they have laid down is that all their swims will take place monthly in open water in Sutherland, no wetsuits are allowed and they must swim at least 50 metres – the length of an Olympic sized pool.

Major General Marriott, the former commandant of Sandhurst Military Academy, said: “We’ve now reached £5000 and sent a cheque to Sandpiper for that amount. The next goal is £7000 which is enough to fully equip an emergency responder with a completely stocked medical bag, defibrillator, oxygen and medication, as well as a high-vis protective jacket, steel toecap, boots and a helmet.”
