A crowdfunding page has been launched in aid of Maggie's Highland following a break-in at its Inverness base last night.

A spokesman for the charity said: "Thank you so much to everyone who has been in touch offering support after hearing about the break in at our centre. Across the Highlands people with cancer, and their family and friends, need us now more than ever and it is your generosity which ensures we are here with them. If you would like to help, please donate. Thank you."

It followed a social media post shared 2000 times this afternoon which stated: "It is with with great sadness and regret that we have to inform you that our beautiful Maggie’s Highlands Centre was viciously vandalised last night causing significant damage to the doors, windows and flooring within the centre.

"Unfortunately we have no option but to close our centre to visitors for at least a couple days while we clear the damage within centre and then have the centre deep cleaned for everyone’s safety.

"If you had an appointment booked with us, we will be in touch. We will of course still be here for anyone that needs us via telephone, email and video. We will update you all further as soon as we can."
