Lochinver lifeboat called out to partially-submerged vessel which may have been in water 'for some time'

Lochinver lifeboat was launched at the weekend after a fishing boat came across a partially submerged vessel off the Sutherland coast.

The RNLB Julian and Margaret Leonard was sent at 1.11pm yesterday to the scene about 14 miles off Lochinver.

The partly submerged boarding boat was about 10ft long and taken in tow by the lifeboat.

A spokesman for Stornoway Coastguard said it appeared the sunken craft may have originated from Lochinver and the lifeboat was removing a potential hazard to shipping. It may have also been in the water for some time, and there were no reports of any missing people. A search of the area was carried out as a precaution.
