SSEN Transmission is calling on Lairg-Loch Buidhe residents to join its Community Liaison Group (CLG), to provide their input during construction of the new substation and replacement overhead line.

The CLG group launched in June has been established as part of SSEN Transmission’s the recently consented Lairg-Loch Buidhe project, which will involve the erection of new and replacement overhead infrastructure in the area, and the construction of a new substation at Dalchork. The network upgrade will enable the connection of new renewable electricity generation to the transmission system across the north of Scotland, supporting the transition to Net Zero.

The CLG group will be a key component of the project, creating a regular forum to provide updates on construction activity, advance notice of key milestones and discuss issues of interest. Providing a formal platform for the local community to raise any issues related to construction directly with SSEN Transmission’s project team and work collaboratively with them to identify appropriate mitigations.

The CLG will consist of representatives covering a broad range of local interests including local councillors, community council members and members of the local community, working alongside key members of SSEN Transmission’s project team. The group will have an independent chair and meetings will be minuted and will published on the project website.

Commenting on the CLG, SSEN Transmission’s Community Liaison Manager, Lisa Marchi-Grey, said:

“As a responsible developer, we are committed to working closely with the local community throughout the development and construction of our major projects. The Community Liaison Group will bring the local community closer to the project and crucially will ensure our team has a greater understanding of the needs and expectations of the people who live and work in the area, helping ensure we consider and address their needs throughout the construction of the project.”

“The valuable feedback obtained through the CLG will help shape our plans and approach and I would encourage anyone interested in becoming involved in this important local initiative to get in touch.”

The CLG will consist of key members of SSEN Transmission’s project team, including the project manager, site manager, and community liaison manager, with the company looking for eight members of the local community to join them.

If you are interested in being a part of the CLG, or want to learn more about it, please contact SSEN Transmission’s Community Liaison Manager, Lisa.Marchi@sse.com or visit the Project Documentation section on the Lairg-Loch Buidhe project site, https://www.ssen-transmission.co.uk/projects/lairg-loch-buidhe/.
