A BONAR Bridge campaigner has succeeded in securing a visit to the village by a leading bank’s Scottish chairman.

Michael Baird has been tireless in his efforts to complain about the closure of banks in the Highlands. He also has grievances about mobile banks which have replaced branches throughout the north.

Now, Philip Grant, chairman of Lloyds Banking Group’s Scottish executive committee, based at the Mound in Edinburgh, has pledged to visit Bonar Bridge later this month.

This follows a raft of correspondence sent to him by Mr Baird complaining about the state of banking services in the Highlands. He also attended a number of Lloyds’ annual general meetings asking how the banks arrived at and implemented their closure decisions.

Mr Grant wrote a personal letter to Mr Baird asking for a meeting at the mobile bank in Bonar Bridge on Tuesday, March 26.

Mr Baird said: “We have a mobile bank that is not fit for purpose. It is here two hours on a Tuesday and there are usually queues and not everyone can be seen. We then have to make the 50-mile round trip to Tain.”
