A LIGHT aircraft, which took off form Wick airport heading to Iceland at the weekend, had to make a forced landing at Stornoway after getting into difficulties.

The twin engine Cessna with two people on board experienced trouble with one of its engines shortly after leaving Wick on Sunday evening.

Emergency services gathered at Stornoway airport after being alerted to the situation.

A Police Scotland spokesman saidcCoastguards, firefighters, ambulance personnel and members of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution were all in attendance.

The A866 Stornoway to Point road was closed for a period of time.

The spokesman said: "The plane landed safely without incident at around 7.15pm."
