Life in lockdown: North minister contributes to TV documentary

A FASCINATING and deeply personal glimpse into life in lockdown filmed by a variety of ordinary people is set to be shared on a television documentary screening next week.

Sgeulachdan a' Ghlasaidh (Life in Lockdown) started following a variety of Scottish contributors from two weeks into lockdown to record their stories.

Some of these people have first-hand experience of the virus, some are front line workers and others have been shielding.

Rev Calum Iain Macleod, minister of Urquhart (Ferintosh) & Resolis Free Church, is amongst the contributors.

Rev Macleod, who lives in Ferintosh, shares his thoughts on the virus and says his family, like many others, has its own concerns because his daughter Eilidh works in a care home and his sister is a nurse, while his parents live alone in Harris and there have been cases there too.

He explains that he faces a difficult day because he is going to attend a funeral with only one person present, the son of the deceased, as a result of lockdown restrictions.

Rev Macleod continued to deliver services as a live broadcast to allow members of the congregation to worship. As he stands talking to an empty church he says that he hopes some people out there are watching or listening.

The programmes also feature interviews with people from other parts of the world to offer a wider perspective on the coronavirus pandemic.

Sgeulachdan a' Ghlasaidh is on BBC ALBA on Monday and Tuesday , September 7 and 8 September at 9-9.45pm and will also be available on the BBC iPlayer for 30 days afterwards.
