A DORNOCH resident has expressed concern over parked vehicles blocking the pavement outside a garage in the town centre.

Stephen Farquharson, Embo Street, has highlighted the situation in a letter to Dornoch and District Community Council.

He said he had noticed on several recent occasions vehicles parked outside the little showroom belonging to Central Garage in Church Street, Dornoch.

“This completely blocks the pavement on that side of the road,” he stated.

Church Street was relatively clear of vehicles when this picture was taken on Saturday.

Mr Farquharson added that the vehicles were parked for a considerable length of time – up to 45 minutes – and were obviously not making a delivery or collections during that period

He wrote that he had seen pedestrians having to go onto the road to get round the vehicles.

“On one occasion someone was coming from the Free Church with a pram and had to move into the road against oncoming traffic,” his letter reads.

And he pointed out: “When Dornoch Caravan and Camping Park starts up again, traffic will increase, as garage customers park on the other side of the garage and crossing the road becomes a bigger problem.”

He suggested that the garage be given “some form of concession” during working hours to allow extended parking times on the town square.

“I know that the owner is running a business and providing employment locally,” he wrote. “However unless there is some reason as to why vehicles can be parked on the pavement, then I think the community council should address this issue.”

Mr Farquharson’s letter is set to be discussed at the community council's meeting on Wednesday.
