Highland Hospice is set to launch its fundraising Go Nuts art trail on Friday, June 28.

Twenty-three 5ft high red squirrel sculptures will be place in locations across the north where there are Highland Hospice shops.

Both Dornoch and Tain are set to play host to the sculptures, which have been created by artist Scott Gleed and decorated with designs submitted by other local artists.

Tain based solicitors Mackenzie and Cormack are among businesses who have sponsored individual squirrels.

Hospice events fundraiser Jenna Hayden said the sculptures were currently with Park Motor Groups who were applying a waterproof, lacquer coating.

Free maps of the art trail will be available from each hospice shop along and sticker books, bands and tote bags will also be on sale.

When the trail ends in September, the squirrels will be gathered together for a farewell display before taking centre state at a Highland Hospice charity auction in November.

They will then move to their new, permanent homes.

Ms Hayden said: “This is a hugely exciting project for the Highlands this summer – we’ve never seen anything like it up here. Go nuts will appeal too people of all ages.

“The designs are truly incredible and the finished products are better than we ever could have imagined, thanks to Scott and each and every one of our talented artists.

“We can’t wait to see the public’s reaction to them.”
