The organisers of one of Sutherland’s top Christmas attractions have publicly thanked local businesses for their continuing support of it.

Lairg and District Community Initiatives is staging its fifth annual Winterfest from noon on Saturday, November 23.

The event, which has become a firm favourite, features real reindeer pulling Santa in a sleigh along the Main Street to the community hall, where the festivities are based.

LDCI chairwoman Kaye Hurrion said Winterfest was an “important day” for the village and the wider community.

She said: “Winterfest has been made possible by a number of local businesses donating either towards the event or the raffle.

“It is a really important event here in Lairg for our community and our surrounding neighbours and without their support we would really struggle to host the day.

“We’d also like to thank all the volunteers who help out and are looking forward to welcoming everyone on the day.”

Children are well catered for at the Winterfest with the chance to visit Santa in his grotto and to meet his reindeer. There is also free children’s entertainment by Lairg based Mousetail Puppets in the primary school during the afternoon.

The event is also an outlet for local crafts people and businesses to showcase their wares with a craft fair in the community centre.

Lairg Crofters Show supports Winterfest by providing refreshments and home baking. Festive food is available outdoors along with a family funfair.

Winterfest ends at 4.30pm following a Grand raffle but Light Up Lairg is organising a family dance from 7pm with refreshments provided by Lairg Primary School Parent Council.
