Lairg Gala Week and Brora Carnival Week set to kick off this weekend





Two Sutherland communities are gearing up for their traditional week-long summer celebrations.

Lairg Gala Week starts tomorrow, Saturday, July 5, and runs until Saturday, July 12, while Brora Carnival Week kicks off on Sunday, July 6, and runs until Saturday, July 12.

Both festival weeks are packed with exciting activities and events suitable for all ages.

A vintage car show will be held at Lairg Community Centre from 10am tomorrow with a craft market from 11am. There will be a family dance with Blue Ridge in the community centre from 7.30pm to 10.30pm.

The official opening of Lairg Gala Week will take place at around 3pm tomorrow with members of two pipe bands leading a march to the marquee.

Following the band will be 2025 Queen Olivia Saunders and her attendants, Ellie Young and Ally Bain.

The official opening will be performed by “local legend” Rhona Morrison from Shinness.

Stephen Maclean, of Lairg Gala Week, said: “We have a fun-packed week ahead with competitions, sports, quizzes and lots of other activities.

“On the final Saturday we will hold our raft race, It’s a KnockOut, and the prize-giving ceremony. We are very lucky to have Mascot Madness joining us with giant slides, inflatable axe throwing and much more, and in the evening EZRA will be performing at the main marquee dance.”

The Brora Carnival Week organisers have also planned a variety of activities, including a run revolution. pool and darts competition in the social club on the opening day and a car treasure hunt.
