The Labour party has selected its prospective Westminster parliamentary candidate for the Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross constituency.

It was announced this week that Caithness crofter Bill Curran will stand for the party in the next General Election.

A spokesman for the Caithness, Sutherland and Ross party said his selection had been "unanimous".

A Lybster resident, Mr Curran has enjoyed a career as a psychiatric nurse but before qualifying held a number of low-wage casual jobs.

The spokesman said: "Bill knows from personal experience how tough life can be."

"He has campaigned on the health provision in our area as well as housing, Universal Credit, mental health and also the cuts to additional support needs (ASN).

"He will make an excellent, hard working MP, representing our area with the determination we need to highlight the pressing issues we face."
