‘It was toughest thing I have ever done’: Triple Challenge success for Assynt Mountain Rescue Team members
Five members of Assynt Mountain Rescue team have proven that they are literally in peak fitness.
Fiona Richardson, Stephen Holmes, Nick Ogden, Ben Dyson and James Maclean conquered the three most northerly Munros – mountains over 3000 feet – in the UK on Sunday, and in blustery conditions. Not only did they scale the peaks, but they also cycled between them!
The quintet spent 17 hours on foot and bike over the weekend, covering 116km (72 miles) and climbed 10,600 feet of height, as they conquered Ben More Assynt, Ben Hope and Ben Klibreck in Sutherland.
The “Triple Challenge” has so far raised over £2300 - split equally between Assynt MRT and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Team leader Ben Dyson said: “It was the toughest thing I have ever done. We were originally going to do it on Saturday, but we postponed it by 24 hours because of dangerously high winds.”
“It was still very blowy. We had the wind on our backs between Ben More and Ben Hope which was very welcome.
“But the cycle from Ben Hope to Ben Klibreck was the hardest bit having already done two Munros.
“We would like to thank our support crew – who were brilliant and made the challenge possible.”
