A woman on a rock spotting trip in Sutherland ended up getting injured trying to cross a river swollen by recent rainfall.

Eleven members of Assynt Mountain Rescue Team were called out on Saturday to the walker who had injured their ankle attempting to cross a burn just south of the Quinag car park.

”She had been walking with a companion looking at the rocks and geology of the area and the river was flowing heavily,” said Ben Dyson, team leader.

“Rivers and burns can become extremely hazardous following periods of heavy rainfall. People should visit the Mountaineering Scotland website for more information.

“It was our 18th call out of 2024 which would normally be about our total for a year. It is certainly building up to be a very busy year for us so any donations will be gratefully received.”
