Inverness predicted to be hit by a foot of snow
INVERNESS will be bracing itself after it was predicted the area could be hit by a colossal weather bomb with a foot of snow forecast within days.
The Arctic conditions would see the whole of the UK seeing brutal snow storms together with sub-zero temperatures.
According to the latest weather maps from Netweather TV there will be snow storms and biting temperatures on December 5 and 6 – with a huge red and orange snow front heading towards the UK from the Arctic on the second day.
Wind speed will peak at 30mph, according to WXCharts, and snow depth will be up to 25cm in Inverness on December 6.
It is expected that the average wind chill will be -10C across the whole of the UK.
The Met Office confirmed temperatures fell to -9.9C (14.2F) in Braemar earlier this week, and the recent cold blast has led to the deaths of at least four people including an 89-year-old woman in Scotland.
On Wednesday temperatures are expected to remain below freezing, as the UK is trapped between two low-pressure weather systems, with lows of -2C into winter.
Alex Burkill, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said the current situation was allowing colder air to flow in from the north.
